What is Required to be Trained in PMU?

Scalp micropigmentation. You may have heard of it before, and if you haven’t, you’ll be hearing about it soon. This new procedure is becoming one of the most popular methods to combat hair loss. Often performed by experts in permanent makeup like the team at Rockstar Ink, Scalp micropigmentation procedures fill in gaps in the hairline with small micro pigments, in a process similar to tattooing. Or, for those with more extensive hair loss, the micro pigments can be applied to mimic hair growing in after a recent shave. No matter what option you go for, you’re left looking better and more confident than before.

Google “scalp micropigmentation” and you’ll find tons of sources telling you about how amazing the treatment is. But, have you ever wondered how scalp micropigmentation technicians are trained? Whether you want to know more before you commit to a scalp micropigmentation procedure or are actually looking to be trained yourself, keep reading! I’ve compiled all the information you need to know about scalp micropigmentation training from the DC Micropigmentation Academy — click here for training details.

Training Classes
Scalp micropigmentation experts train the new class of scalp micropigmentation technicians at training classes. Often having a maximum enrollment size of six students, these classes offer the personalized attention that anyone working in the cosmetic industry needs. These training classes last for five days and occur about four times every year. Students enrolled in the classes often receive a scalp micropigmentation machine and a starter kit.

What do students learn?

Students learn a lot in just five days, so much in fact that it would be impossible to list everything here. However, here are some of the highlights from scalp micropigmentation training courses:

  • Hygiene and personal personal protection. Without scalp micropigmentation equipment remaining clean at all times, it is possible for the hairline of the patient to become infected. Students learn how to properly maintain a clean work station at all times to avoid spreading germs.
  • The various sources of hair loss. To better help the customer, it is important that students are aware from the various reasons why one may lose their hair, whether that is male pattern baldness, alopecia, or cancer treatment. Students learn about these different conditions and use the information they learn to create a personalized treatment plan for their customers.
  • Technique. Of course, the most crucial thing students take from a scalp micropigmentation class is how to actually apply the pigments to the head. Students learn directly from a scalp micropigmentation expert who has worked successfully with hundreds of clients.

Practice makes perfect. Before finishing their scalp micropigmentation training class, students have several opportunities to practice the technique they have learned from their course instructor. Students first practice on paper and 3D simulators, and towards the end of the course, they carry out an actual scalp micropigmentation treatment on a real patient with the guidance of the instructor. This practice gives the students the confidence to perform treatments in the workplace.
